Periyar Government Arts College, Cuddalore, celebrates Tri-grand festivities-2015 (Fine Arts, Sports and College Day) on 04.04.2015

Periyar Government Arts College, Cuddalore, celebrates Tri-grand festivities-2015 (Fine Arts, Sports and College Day) in a fitting way. The College after getting reaccreditation by NAAC with B Grade celebrates the functions in a grand manner. At beginning Dr.N.Kannan, HOD of Economics welcomed the gatherings. The Sports activities were presented by Dr.K.Nirmalkumar, Physical Director (In-charge) of Botany Department. In his report, he highlighted the college successfully received Rs.10 Lakhs as sports equipment fund from UGC-SERO, Hyderabad under XII Plan. He added that the college further planned to have synthetic track and field grounds to enhance the sports activities. The College planned to buy sports cycles for Cycling race.

Prof.C.Sivasanmugaraja, Secretary, Fine Arts Club, presented fine arts report of the college. He pridly reported that the college excel well in oration, miming, mono-acting, solo dance and group dance. Our girls were victorious in a high profile competition of group dance conducted by Suryan FM and won 5 Lakhs as cash award.

The annual report of the college was presented by Dr.V.N.Viswanathan, Principal, Periyar Government Arts College. He reported that the college students occupied 8 University Ranks in different subjects. The college has conducted 7 National Seminars, 1 Workshop and 1 Model Parliament funded by external agencies.

The college faculty members received 5 minor projects and 2 faculty members and principal visited and presented research papers in foreign countries.

The college successfully gained ‘B’ Grade by NAAC with 2.43 CGPA. The college has prepared a dossier for 21 add-on courses under UGC- KAUSHAL programme which can enable the students to get skill-based job opportunities. Another dossier was prepared to get Autonomous status to ensuing academic year. Over all the college annual report predicts that it may attain excellence in higher education in coming years. The Chief Guest of the function was A.Marks, who is well known Human Rights writer and activist. In his speech he has highlighted the status of Human Rights in India and linked with it practice of modern democracy. He gave away the prizes for the rank holders, winners of sports competitions and fine arts events of the academic year 2014-15.
