National Seminar on “Food Security in India: Challenges in Administration and Governance”

Arts College, Cuddalore conducted a UGC sponsored National Seminar on “Food
Security in India: Challenges in Administration and Governance” during 27 &
28th August 2014. In his welcome address Prof.V.Rayappan, HOD of
Political Science welcomed the gatherings.
There are participation from Bangalore, Andra Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Chennai. During the inaugural function Principal, Periyar Arts College emphasized the need for continuity of Food Security policy of the previous UPA Government and the newly elected BJP Government. He observed, that the negotiating skills of Indian representatives at WTO-and FAO are abysmally ineffective in securing the interests of Indian farmers in the context of subsidy, minimum support price and insurance.
The Chief Guest Dr.P.Sakthivel spoke on the various advantages of Food Security Act-2013 and called for removing the bottlenecks of administration of PDS in India. At the end of the inaugural function Mr.Thiyagarajan, Assistant Professor of Microbiology extended a vote of thanks. There are 300 participating students 30 participant outside Cuddalore. The event marked by publication of Seminar proceedings in the form a book. The book was released by Principal and the first copy received by Dr.P.Sakthivel, Annamalai University. There was also a book exhibition on Social Sciences.
