Cuddalore MP K.S. Alagiri laid the foundation stone for the construction of additional class rooms on the premises of the Periyar Government Arts College here on Thursday (21.11.2013). 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Alagiri said that a sum of Rs. 30 lakh had been sanctioned for the new structure from the MP’s Local Area Development fund. He told the contractor to guarantee quality in the construction. The MP called upon the student community to emerge stronger in the field of technology as only then the country could achieve real progress. He said he was astounded by the inventions of German students showcased in a machine tool expo held in that country during his recent visit. Principal V.N. Viswanathan said the college started with 236 students had now on its roll over 4,000 students. Twenty-five new courses would be started from the next academic year. As such, the existing infrastructure in the college could not cope with the increasing demand. He thanked the MP for having sanctioned Rs. 30 lakh for a new wing that would also have an open auditorium.
