Presidential Address by Dr.V.N.Viswanathan,
Principal, Periyar Government Arts College
The Indian
Prime Minister’s motto of “Make in India” has led India to the pinnacle of progress and
accordingly India’s development by leaps and bounds is certain. India holds the
142nd position among the countries of the world with the potential
for production.
If we
wish to reach the 50th position within the next five years it is
incumbent upon us to increase our production by five times. I propose two methods
for improving our production:
1. To
make automative machines at a low cost.
2. To
market efficiently the goods produced.
The
entrepreneurs would whole-heartedy welcome innovative efforts making use of new
technology for the production of goods. A country that claims to have the
necessarry potential for production must charter a clearcut industrial policy
and must adopt methods for achieving optimum production.
India’s
exemplary growth in the field of Information Technology was not merely an
accident. The field of Electronics developed a healthy competition in goods production and adopted the correct
industrial policy which was the main reason for the enormous success in the IT
field. However, India faces a setback in the production of goods which need
simple skills. Paradoxically, we are easily able to carryout production of goods
involving great difficulty.
In
today’s competetive economy India has shown great penchant in the production general
goods, petrol and diesel cars and its components.
It is
necessary on our part to increase the industrial production of goods by using
novel techniques in the industrial field in which we are in the forefront. For
example, if the fields of defence, software, electronic goods, construction sector, health
safety and industries related to agriculture unanimously unite and adopt
relavant methods we would defenetly overtake all other countries in the global,
commercial challenge.
As far
as Cuddalore district is concerned our focus should be on the conservation of
environment and development of agriculture-oriented industrial units. By
increasing sugarcane cultivation through new technological methods sugar
production can be increased. In the seashore areas development of industrial
units for the proper preservation of fish will enhance foreign exchange. We
need to use new methods for preservation of fish and there by increase fish
export. Ways and means have to be found for making the cash crops of Cuddalore like
cashew and sugarcane reach the world market.
Adequate
human resources have not been utilized for the production of software in
Cuddalore. Hence an IT park has to be established in Cuddalore so as to attract
software engineers and software investors.
In
the field of higher education the colleges and universities have to foster
world class research projects on this happy occasion of our independence day we
humbly request the government of Tamil Nadu to establish a State University
which promotes the highest research aptitude in Cuddalore District.
