The Government of Tamil Nadu upgraded Periyar Arts College, Cuddalore as Grade – I college

Government of Tamil Nadu, in its order G.O.No: MS 71 Dt.
23.05.2014, upgraded Periyar Arts College, Cuddalore as Grade –I
college.
Dr.V.N.Viswanathan, who was working here as the Principal of the College, is now promoted as the first Principal of Grade-I college. Several Professors belonging to Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association (TNGCTA) felicitated him for his promotion. The notable among them are Prof.S.Tamizhazhi Korgai Vendan, HOD of Tamil Dept, Prof.K.Nirmal Kumar, Unit Secretary, Prof.S.David Soundar, Zonal President, Prof.V.Panneerselvam, Joint-Secretary, Prof.Murugaraj, Treasurer and General body members namely Prof.Jerald, Prof.Rayappan, Prof.N.Baskaran, Prof.Geetha and Prof.Anitha.
As a Grade –I college, it is planned to introduce innovative courses such as B.Sc-Visual Communication, BBA, MBA, MSW and M.A,-Psychology for the benefit of socially and economically backward communities. To develop sports activities, the college will approach UGC – (SERO) for basket ball court, tennis court and badminton court. Besides a gymnasium consisting of modern equipments will be procured under UGC funding. Since the college is situated in the Silver Beach of Cuddalore, it is also planned to introduce ‘sking and surfing games’ through yacht.
All efforts are undertaken for the modernization of general library and facilitating extension of library time till midnight. Because of upgradation of the college, there are possibilities of getting more funds from funding agencies and also pave the way for attaining autonomous status later.
