Candidates representatives can watch strongrooms on laptops in Cuddalore Periyar Arts College

CUDDALORE: 

          On the direction of District Electoral Officer P. Seetharaman, web camera-fitted laptops have been placed in the inner perimeter of Periyar Government Arts College where electronic voting machines collected from four constituencies have been kept in the strongrooms.

            Mr. Seetharaman told reporters that already such laptops had been placed in front of the respective strongrooms where the EVMs of the Cuddalore, Panruti, Neyveli and Kurinjipadi Assembly constituencies were kept for round-the-clock monitoring. Authorised representatives of candidates were allotted a place in the counting centre for keeping vigil. Earlier, they were permitted to go once in a day to the first and second floors of the college to check the seals on the locks of the strongrooms. With the setting up of four laptops, one each for every constituency, in their enclosure, the representatives could now easily keep a 24-hour check on strongrooms.
